Welcome to Citizenshipped ("we", "us", or "our"). We operate citizenshipped.com, a citizenship test preparation platform that helps users around the world study for and pass their citizenship exams.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use our website, mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the "Services"). It also describes your rights and choices with respect to your personal information.

Because we serve users globally, this policy is designed to comply with applicable privacy laws including Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), among others.

By accessing or using our Services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of our Services.

Age Restrictions

Our Services are intended for users who are 13 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are under 13, please do not use our Services or submit any personal information to us.

If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take immediate steps to delete that information. If you believe we may have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at privacy@citizenshipped.com.

We collect information you provide directly to us and information collected automatically when you use our Services.

Information You Provide

When you register for an account, use our Services, or communicate with us, you may provide us with:

Account Information: Your full name and email address when you create an account.
Date of Birth: Used to verify your eligibility to use the platform and to tailor your experience.
Country of Study: The country whose citizenship test you are preparing for (e.g., Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom). Note: we do not ask for your country of origin or current nationality.
Communications: Messages, feedback, or support requests you send to us.

Information Collected Automatically

When you interact with our Services, we automatically collect certain technical and usage information, including:

Device Information: Your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, and device identifiers.
Usage Data: Pages visited, features used, time spent on the platform, and interactions with study materials.
Study Progress and Quiz Results: Your performance data, practice test scores, areas of strength and weakness, and learning history within the platform.
Log Data: Server logs, error reports, and activity timestamps.

Information from Third Parties

If you choose to sign in using a third-party social login provider (such as Google or Apple), we may receive certain profile information from that provider, such as your name and email address, in accordance with your privacy settings on that platform. We do not receive your password from these providers.

To deliver citizenship test preparation content and features you have requested.
To personalize your study experience based on your progress and quiz results.
To process payments and manage your subscription or free trial through Stripe.
To maintain the security and integrity of our platform.
To improve and develop new features and services.

To send you transactional emails such as registration confirmations, password resets, and payment receipts.
To send you product updates, platform announcements, and notifications about new features or study materials.
To send you marketing and promotional emails where you have consented or where we are otherwise permitted by law. You may opt out at any time (see Section 12).

Analytics and Research

To analyze how users interact with our platform in order to improve content and user experience.
To conduct internal research and generate aggregated, anonymized insights about learning patterns.

Legal and Compliance

To comply with applicable laws and regulations.
To enforce our Terms of Service and other agreements.
To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, or security incidents.

Third-Party Services

We work with trusted third-party service providers to operate our platform. These providers only receive information necessary to perform their functions and are contractually obligated to protect your data.

Payment Processing β€” Stripe

We use Stripe to process all payments. Your payment information is submitted directly to Stripe and is not stored on our servers. Stripe's use of your information is governed by their Privacy Policy at stripe.com/privacy.

Cloud Infrastructure β€” Supabase / AWS / Google Cloud

We use cloud hosting providers and Supabase for database management and secure data storage. These providers process data on our behalf in secure environments.

Analytics β€” Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how users engage with our platform. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Email Marketing β€” Mailchimp

We use Mailchimp to send product updates and marketing communications. Your name and email address may be shared with this provider solely for delivering these communications.

Social Login β€” Google & Apple

If you sign in using Google or Apple, limited profile data (name and email) is shared between those platforms and Citizenshipped in accordance with your privacy settings on those platforms.

Other Disclosures

Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, or governmental authority.
Protection of Rights: When necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Citizenshipped, our users, or the public.
Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. We will notify you of any such change.
With Your Consent: For any other purpose with your explicit consent.

International Transfers

Citizenshipped is based in Canada, which the European Commission has recognized as providing an adequate level of protection for personal data. However, some of our third-party service providers may process your data in countries outside of Canada, the EEA, or the UK.

Where we transfer personal data internationally, we take appropriate safeguards to ensure your data remains protected, including entering into Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) with our service providers or relying on other lawful transfer mechanisms.

Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our Services.

Account and profile data is retained for the duration of your account and a reasonable period after closure to comply with legal obligations.
Study progress and quiz data is retained for the duration of your account. You may delete your account and data at any time (see Section 13).
Transaction records (payment history) may be retained for up to seven (7) years to comply with tax and accounting obligations.
Analytics and log data may be retained in aggregated or anonymized form for longer periods.

Your Privacy Rights

PIPEDA β€” Canadian Users

Right of Access: You may request access to the personal information we hold about you.
Right to Correction: You may request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete personal information.
Right to Withdraw Consent: You may withdraw your consent to our processing, subject to legal or contractual restrictions.

GDPR β€” EEA and UK Users

Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): Request deletion of your personal data.
Restriction of Processing: Request that we limit how we use your data.
Data Portability: Receive a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
Object to Processing: Object to our processing of your data based on legitimate interests.
Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent at any time for processing based on consent.
Lodge a Complaint: File a complaint with your local data protection authority (e.g., the ICO in the UK).

CCPA / CPRA β€” California Residents

Know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, or sell.
Delete their personal information (subject to certain exceptions).
Opt out of the sale of personal information. Note: Citizenshipped does not sell personal information.
Non-discrimination for exercising their privacy rights.

Marketing & Opt-Out

We send both product-related communications (service updates and account notifications) and marketing emails (promotional offers and study tips).

In compliance with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), we only send commercial electronic messages to users who have provided express or implied consent, and every marketing email includes a clear way to unsubscribe.

You may opt out of marketing emails at any time by:

Clicking the "Unsubscribe" link in any marketing email you receive from us.
Contacting us at privacy@citizenshipped.com with a request to be removed from marketing communications.

Even if you opt out of marketing emails, we may still send transactional or account-related communications such as payment receipts or important service notices.

Account Deletion

You have the right to delete your Citizenshipped account and the personal data associated with it at any time.

Use the account deletion option within your account settings on the platform.
Contact us directly at privacy@citizenshipped.com with a deletion request.

Upon receiving a verified deletion request, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable timeframe, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

Encryption of data in transit using TLS/SSL protocols.
Secure cloud infrastructure with access controls and monitoring.
Regular security reviews and vulnerability assessments.
Restricted access to personal data on a need-to-know basis.

While we strive to protect your information, no method of internet transmission is completely secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and keep your login credentials confidential.

In the event of a personal data breach likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify you and relevant authorities as required by applicable law.
